The Balkan Peninsula has for centuries been a crossroads of peoples, languages, and faiths, and this diversity is best reflected in the customs that the peoples of this region observe during life’s most important moments – birth, marriage, funerals, but also through celebrations of religious and folk holidays such as the slava (patron saint’s day), Christmas, or Đurđevdan (St. George’s Day).
